After a shoot you might have six hundred frames and eight keepers. Ratings are how you get from one to the other without losing an afternoon.
Every asset can carry a rating from one to five stars. Ratings are shared across your workspace, so the stars you set are the stars your team sees - one person can cull, and everyone else works from that judgment.
Rating quickly
The fast way is the keyboard. Open a file, then:
- 1 to 5 - set the rating instantly.
- Left and right arrows - move to the previous or next file.
That's the whole loop. Open the first file, press a number, press the right arrow, repeat. You can go through hundreds of files without touching the mouse, which is the point.
Where you can rate
- The preview screen - stars sit in the Details panel, under the description.
- Table view - rate down a column while you scan names and tags.
Filtering by rating
Once your files are rated, use the file properties filter at the top of your library to narrow to what you want - the five-star selects, or everything you haven't got to yet.
This is where the shared-rating part pays off. A photographer can cull on Monday, and the marketing team can filter for four stars and up on Tuesday without re-reviewing anything.
Rating through an assistant
Ratings work through the MCP and the API as well, and they read back - so "rate the keepers five, then show me everything still unrated" works as a single flow with an AI assistant.
Tips
- Rate in one sitting where you can. Consistency within a batch matters more than being precise about what a three means.
- Agree as a team what five stars is for. Ratings are shared, so a shared meaning is what makes them useful.
